Other Worlds of Existence: What are They?

The book Other Worlds in German is now printed! This is one of my favorite topics in the Wisdom Teachings and I am very much looking forward to presenting a seminar on this topic in Switzerland in November 2008.

In the Ancient Wisdom Teachings and in many religious and spiritual traditions, we read about the various levels of existence beyond the physical-material world. Nowhere is this information better explained than in the book Other Worlds. We now have a lot of interest in the various levels of existence beyond the physical, and it is more accepted than ever before that there are indeed subtle levels that we do not fully understand. It is one of the most important topics to learn about. Once we understand and appreciate the impact of knowing about this topic, our life on earth will change dramatically for the better.

What are the Other Worlds?

The Other Worlds is a term used to describe the various levels of existence beyond the physical (physical-etheric, astral, mental, buddhic, atmic, divine). Each of these is a “tangible” level of existence that is increasingly less dense from the physical/material plane perspective. These levels sometimes are called Subtle Worlds, Higher Worlds, or Other Worlds.

Why do I say tangible? These levels are totally accessible to people who have developed the instruments with which to contact the subtle levels. Being able to sense anything beyond our physical senses requires the instruments of measuring or recognition. There has been and there are now persons who have inner instruments that are able to connect with the various levels of existence. Every religious tradition in the world has recounted stories about other worldly contact as the source of its principles.

The instruments needed to measure non-physical realities need to be beyond the physical senses. So for example, those people who have an inner sight, or inner hearing, or inner perception have senses developed on extra physical levels. We hear of wise men and women, prophets, gurus, and such who have or had clairaudience, clairvoyance, and could also hear and interpret thoughts. Such people in many advanced states could commune with spirits, angelic presences, even God. Advanced spiritual leaders such as Jesus, Mohammed, Moses, the Prophets and the Apostles all had the capacity to commune with extra physical beings. Every religious movement traces its origin from an individual who received a special dispensation, a message from God, from an Angel, or even groups of angelic beings who brought the Teaching to them.

Similarly, great leaders from all nations as well as people on the cutting edge of discoveries and visionaries have also expressed their connection with extra physical communication, which gave them direction, insight, and courage in times of adversity. Their connection to the higher worlds gave them continuity and tenacity and the ability to sacrifice and strive in the service of some great principles. Martin Luther King Jr. clearly stated his religious connectivity as an inspiration to his work. Mother Theresa had daily communion in prayer and service. Read the lives of Sufi saints and you can find many accounts of other worldly communications.

Of course, we also have the pseudo prophets, the psychics, channels and mediums and fortunetellers. In every field of life, we can find the desperately trying as well as the genuine article. It is up to us, as sane and balanced individuals, to be able to tell the difference between the real and the unreal and, at the meantime, not to condemn or belittle or relegate to the inconsequential those who believe or practice other than we do.

How do we connect with the Higher Worlds?

Through the growth and expansion of our consciousness. People are already unconsciously sensitive to much more than the physical plane. We communicate and understand each other by feel, by energy transmission. We understand the motive and feelings behind words even if the words seem bereft of emotion. When we tune into each other, we understand each other beyond words irrespective of time and distance. Inside each of us already exist seeds of instruments that help us connect in subtle ways to each other.

We also have feelings, dreams, and intuitive perceptions about people, events, and future visions. To cultivate these abilities in a conscious and directed way is the path of many spiritual teachings. For example, unselfish and non-self centered prayers put us in contact with the energies of invisible helpers. We stay still, we ask for guidance, we are open to guidance, and we receive it in many different ways. What we ask for is given to us; this is the law of the universe and it is no secret!

There is also scientific meditation. Meditation is the ability to think clearly about a question, idea, a vision, a plan, or an aspect of the Teaching or of life in a sequential and logical fashion. It is deep, analytical thinking from multiple perspectives and layers. Proper meditation is designed to help us develop the instruments of higher contact.

How can learning about the Other Worlds improve our life?

It forces us to see life in its totality. It provides clear guidance about the higher and lower kingdoms of nature. It helps us build right relations with all kingdoms. It helps us appreciate the soul, the spiritual, the non-material aspects of life. It makes us appreciate that after the physical life, there is no racial, color, or religious identity. Religious affiliation is man-made. Your essence is who you are, as a human being, as a soul or spirit. We are all the same units of light in the Subtle Worlds. The egalitarianism of these levels of existence shows us that the only thing that matters is our character, our inner being, and our inner truth. How much we strive and we develop consciousness on multiple levels determines how much and how deeply of the Other Worlds is reality for us.

When we realize that every single human being in the world is part of the tapestry of life, that each person is related to us, God is the Father of all, we are all of divine origin, and our best path is the one built on right human relations, every aspect of our life will improve.

There is no faking in the Higher Worlds. Imagine if someone could see exactly how you are. Would you feel comfortable with the choices you make in life? All the lies and distortions are visible; so are all the love and beauty that we exude from all our expressions.
