Why Celebrate Full Moons?

There is a tradition in the Ageless Wisdom Teachings to have a period of quiet meditation during the time of the new moon and the full moon, as close to the actual time as possible. This is not the worship of the moon, or the celebration of the moon itself. Rather, it is the understanding that during the period of the full moon, the sun veils the energies of the moon and transmits the energies of a particular zodiacal sign to the earth. So, it is the energies of the sun and the zodiacal sign that are of importance and desired, since the moon itself is considered a dead planet that does not transmit positive and uplifting energies to humanity.

The ancient Sages taught that every heavenly body transmits energy. Life is a dance of energies. Our life is influenced by the energies that we take in and the energies that we distribute. The qualities of energies differ from one heavenly body to the next and, importantly, the qualities of the energies that we distribute differ according to our focus of consciousness.

I have followed the tradition of group or individual meditation at the full moon periods for over 30 years, and find them to be powerful times of self-reflection and re-focus on the purpose and direction of my life. I find some full moon periods much more powerful than others. There are certain keynotes that are indicated for meditative purposes during each of the full moons.
