The Battle of the Spiritual Warrior

The Scorpio Full Moon is the sign of battle for higher values. These higher values include, among other things, the belief that all human beings are one; that beauty, goodness, righteousness, freedom, and the ability to strive for betterment is the right of everyone, and that all of life evolves for the better as we work to instill higher values in all parts of our life. Karma and reincarnation also play a compelling role in the articulation of higher values. The idea of "what we sow, we shall reap" and that this transfers to all our subsequent lifetimes, are two very powerful motivators of right actions and right living.

We often think of battle in terms of physical killing and maiming others. Often, in myths and legends, the hero is depicted as doing battle for some cause or another. In the Wisdom Teachings, the battle is an inner struggle, where the person fights between two lines of energy: the soul power within him/her that tries to pull the person's life toward the eternal and timeless values and the personality/material part that tries to pull the person toward immediate needs and values. These are two lines of opposing force that have been depicted in many spiritual and cultural traditions under various names and guises. For example, the 12 labors of Hercules are a continuous battle, in 12 parts, of the soul over the pull of the material. The battles of Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita is the same story: how can the warrior Arjuna face the many habits, relationships, memories that he has built over lifetimes and start to develop in him and in his life relations based on eternal principles?

Whatever kind of battle we do, it always begins with the inner values, beliefs, our particular approach to life, and inner systems of thought. The struggle starts from inside and then moves outward. When we battle, we are really struggling against inner patterns that propel us in a particular direction.
