Miracle of Continuity

By Gita Saraydarian

Below you will find a link to my latest video clip taken from the lecture on the Sagittarius full moon.

The topic I chose for this month's lecture is the “Miracle of Continuity.” I like this topic very much because it fits my core belief system about life. I think of life as the art and science of the possible. I try always to take a long view of life and whatever is happening in the world around me. I know deep inside of me that humanity has the intrinsic urge to survive and to grow and eventually we come to our senses and start to make decisions about our life that will ensure our health and wellbeing.

I also know that this does not often happen in one lifetime. Humanity takes tens of years, or hundreds of years to make any real change. So, I also take the longer view of life by seeing it from the perspective of many lifetimes. This gives me the advantage of having patience and understanding when I have to look at the many ugly things that we do and the many atrocities that humans commit against each other and the world around them.

Whatever we do is governed by the beliefs that we hold, the thoughts that we have, the feelings that have been impressed in us. These form patterns of behavior and decision making that are directly influenced by what is inside of us. Real change comes to an individual or to society at large only from the inside out. If we do the inner work, the outer will show the changes.
This is where the miracle of continuity comes in. If we persist in striving to change our inner patterns, the results will show in the outer part of our life. It is impossible not to. The energy flow of life is cause and effect. The cause of our life patterns are in the non-material parts of our life, such as the emotional and mental aspects of our being. That is where the real change begins. The one single layer of our physical life is one small part of a much bigger picture that makes up a human being.

We often operate under the impression that life is a closed system and we do not have much influence over it. This happens whether we are thinking in spiritual or non-spiritual ways. For example, if we are spiritually focused and think karma or fate predetermines our life and, whatever is written is written for our destiny, then we see no reason to try to do anything to change our life. On the other extreme, if we think that life is one of chaos and unpredictability and determined by forces outside of ourselves, or worse yet, that life operates under the influence of chaotic and “chance” happenings, again we would have no incentive to try to change anything about ourself. Either way, we defeat ourselves before we even start.

The evidence of life shows the contrary to both of these world views. People do change and overcome tremendous obstacles. Human beings have human frailties and at the meantime have the capacity for systemic changes in every facet of their life. Contemporary and historical literature is full of such examples. See for example how Barak Obama overcame every kind of obstacle and challenge from his childhood and has been elected to one of the most advanced and influential positions in the world today! History is full of such examples. This is the power of the possible, the miracle of continuity. As a friend of mine recently put it, “life is an open system.” It is indeed!

I hope this little clip gives you the inspiration to continue your striving to better yourself and see the “miracles” happen in your life.

The entire lecture is available on DVD or CD or donwnloadable online.

May all your Holy Days be blessed and be full of miracles.
